To the girl that just posted about having bad acne,
I have been suffering from acne since I was 12/13 (I am now almost 20). I know how you feel. There are some days that my face gets so bad that I don't even want to leave my house. It makes me sad that people will pick on people and call them mean names when it's not even his or her fault that they have bad skin. They are insecure about themselves and find a weakness in others and pick on them to make themselves feel better. Just as Kat said you are beautful and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. :) As for stuff to use to cover acne, for over a year now I have been using Sheer Cover mineral concealer and foundation. It does wonders! Also a little tip, wear blush. I feel like when ever I wear blush it helps to distract from my blemishes. If you don't already wear blush, try it! :)
A few weeks ago a wonderful girl at Ulta opened my eyes (or eyelashes) to the fact that popular mascara such as Covergirl or Maybeline can actually weaken your lashes. Next time you buy a new tube, look for ingredients such as wax, proteins, vitamins A, E, keratin, etc. These are ingredients that will nourish your lashes and prevent breakage (just like your hair). For extra long lashes, apply Urban Decay’s Eyelash Primer Potion (click here to view the product). Tiny fibers cling together to create fuller, longer lashes. I just started using it so I will let you know how it goes :)
And as always remember to wash your makeup off before you go to sleep!
Kat! Do you know what would be the best acne wash for a person who doesn't have severely bad acne but has fairly a few pimples. I want to use something that will clear it up & not just buy a product that JUST cleans your face.... you know? I know there are so many out there but do you have a suggestion.... I been using Oxy for years and it use to work but I think my skin is now to use too it! Thanks girl! xx
Clean and Clear is always a go-to of mine. It’s not too strong but it’s strong enough to keep your skin clear.
Kat! I've noticed a lot of people asking about moisturizers and I've recently discovered Burt's Bees Radiance Day Lotion. It's been a really great product in my opinion: it doesn't leave that greasy feeling. It's wallet friendly and super easy to find, and as an added bonus it has SPF 15 and serves as a great base for makeup! Here's a link: http://www.burtsbees.com/natural-products/face-moisturizers/radiance-day-lotion-spf-15.html
check it out! I certainly will since it’s been a rough winter haha.
I suffer from quite bad spots(or acne) and I often get teased for it. I sometimes get called pizza face and all that stuff.
I was wondering, do you know anything that I could use that could help get them not so noticable?
First off, I’m sorry you have to deal with that. It’s so uncalled for, people can be so cruel, and most of the time they’re just as insecure as the rest of us. You are beautiful, I don’t even have to know you to know that!
I have really sensitive fair skin that can't handle the late fall/winter climate changes, it become super dry. It is getting to the point I can't wear facial makeup like foundation because my skin gets dry and flaky. Any suggestions to help improve my dry skin?
Check out the moisturizers I posted below. Apply them definitely before you put makeup on, and nightly after you wash your face. Plus make sure to drink lots of water.
do you have any recommendations for moisturizers for dry sensitive skin? i love your blog! you're awesome for answering all these questions!
Thank you so much!! If you want to play it safe, try Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. The formula is fairly basic and is great for dry to very dry skin that is sensitive. Another good one is Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Moisturizer.
Hi Kat, do you have any recommendations for really dry skin, like on the face area? My make-up looks a tad blotchy when I use it because of dry skin. thanks
Start by moisturizing. This is something you should do nightly after washing your face. Then before applying your foundation, apply moisturizing to the areas of your face that get the driest. Also make sure you’re drinking lots of water, especially during the winter. The heat and lack of moisture messes with your skin.
I do not usually wear make-up because I do not like putting stuff around my eyes. Quite recently I have started to apply mascara. Do you have any easy make-up recommendations or tips for application?
For mascara, start by looking down to apply. It may be easier to hold a hand mirror underneath your eye to help you apply. Apply the mascara while you are looking down, and begin at the root of your eyelashes. Then wiggle the wand slowly to apply the mascara from root to tip. This is the absolute best way to prevent severe clumping. For your bottom lashes, wait a moment for the upper eyelash application to dry. Wiggle the mascara wand slowly through the lashes to get a full application. Just don’t overdo it, especially on the bottom, the end result could be scary haha! The best way to perfect it is to practice. So one night when you don’t have much to do, practice the technique.
Kat, you are beautiful. It's nice to be able to find someone who understands that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. And someone who is also a bsb fan!! Lol I swear you are my long lost best friend.
Hey Kat! I just noticed that you have goregous curls in your picture, and I was wondering if you had in suggestions for me. I have naturally wavish fizzy hair, but everytime I curl it, about ten minutes later the curls fall out!! Do you know any tricks to keeping them?? Thanks. :)
Well thank you :) My hair is naturally curly, so most of the time I don’t curl it. If you’re refferring to the loose curls with a curling iron, I’m still perfecting that look haha. Check out one of my favorite videos from Blair, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41BdPWuZge4
And try Chi enviro flex hold hairspray. That’s my secret weapon!
And just practice practice practice! Also, be careful not to burn your hand. Sounds dumb but I’ve burned myself wayyy too many times haha!
hi kat (:
so, i used to be an extremely skinny person. it was gross i looked. randomly over the summer in 7th grade i started to gain weight, then i gained more in my stomach area. i now have a muffin top and love handles. i also wear a 36D bra size. no matter how much i workout it won't go away. since everyone was used to seeing me skinny, i started getting called fat a lot. and so now i wear baggy shirts to hide everything, because i have no self confidence anymore, i look like a bum. do you know any types of shirts that are stylish and would look good on me around the stomach area?
I feel your pain. It’s tricky because if your shirt is too baggy, it could make you look larger, and if it’s too tight, it accentuates things that you don’t want to be accentuated. Try looser tops, that are tighter around the chest and then flowy at the bottom. And just try everything on. If you’re not comfortable in it, don’t buy it. Try stores like Torrid and Forever 21’s plus size section. But remember, you could be wearing a burlap sack, but if you’re confident and comfortable in it, it could look like a million bucks :)
Regarding the earlier comments about Gentleman After Dark, I would just like to say that it's one of my favourite HS songs! Some fans HAVE made love before (in nothing but moonlight, on the beach, etc), and it's awesome to hear the boys actually sing about it. It's relevant, and it's hot.
Annnd if people can't listen to it because they get the giggles... maybe they should just skip this song, haha. Not to mention never turn on the radio EVER.
I literally heard things I’ve never heard in the song Tipsy.
you honestly are one of the nicest people in the world. i met you at bamboozle when honor society played. your style, hair, and makeup are always amazing and i just can't get over it. don't let the haters get you.
I love that you don't flaunt your connections. I look up to you because of that, other people just brag about who they know or who they work/worked with. I love that you don't. I work with some cool people too but I'm always afraid to say who they are exactly because I don't want to get used for it. I've had that happen to me before.
Just thought I'd tell you that I find you amazing. (=
Got another suggestion for ya.
I recently picked up Bare Escentuals/Rare Minerals' Blemish Therapy at Sephora. It's a light powder than can be used as a spot treatment with or without makeup (i.e. powders, concealers, foundations, etc.) It also works as a concealer, reducing the redness of blemishes and evening out the skin tone.
Sephora's info says, "This Bare Escentuals breakthrough natural, mineral-based product is clinically proven to quickly and effectively clear and heal blemishes. RareMinerals™ Skin Blemish Therapy combines the non-irritating, exfoliating properties of our patent-pending 100% pure RareMinerals™ concentrate with the acne-fighting benefits of natural sulfur to treat acne and blemishes while preventing future breakouts from forming. It penetrates pores to control blackheads. Plus, its translucent tint neutralizes and diffuses the look of blemishes. Use it as an overnight spot treatment to heal blemishes and also as a daytime treatment under bareMinerals makeup. It's perfect for all skin types and ages."
It works extremely well and can be found in Sephora stores and on Sephora.com (http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P202656&categoryId=B70). It retails for around $28, but is currently on sale for $19.
Hope this helps some of your followers! :)
Okay, so I need make-up advice. I think you've answered this but I'm not sure.
1.) How do I keep my foundation on? I use Covergirl Tru Blend. I've been told you put on the liquid foundation then the powder. I am not sure if that's true.
2.) You know what I look like, what would be the best colors for me? I feel like sometimes I either wash myself out or have too dark of eye-shadow?
Yes liquid goes before powder, or at least in my experience it does. Also in my experience, the drugstore foundations just aren’t that great. Would you be able to spring for Mac or Bobbi Brown or Benefit foundation?
What I can suggest from the drugstore is Almay eyeshadow. They have pallets based on your eye color. They work wonders!
Miss Kat, will I get laughed at and completly shunned from society if I buy these (http://www.rebelsport.com.au/ecom/rebel/product_detail.aspx?id=33378&cat=25) to wear when I move from Australia to Indiana? I'm not keen on having my toes fall off because I'm walking around campus with converse on.
I’m not sure of Indiana’s weather, but I’ve seen people wear crazier things than those! If you are comfortable in them and they keep you warm, that’s all that matters!
So me and my friend are going to be dressing up and going out for New Years eve and I have picked out this dress. I know it needs a pop of color but do you have any suggestions as to what? Also I need some help with shoes. I am normally a flat girl because I have a knee problem so it is difficult for me to wear heels but it is also winter and I need to keep my feet warm. What shoes would you recommend?
Can you send the picture again? I can’t seem to open it.
Do you think HS would be willing to tour with @ActionItemband? because they and their fans all want them too and some people have Mike and Alex a copy of their album of " Stronger the Love " but we just dont know the next step in trying to get HS and Action item to tour together. is there anyway you could possibly help Kat? <3
You never know! All I know is that the more people ask, the more annoying it could get haha.
Hey Kat so since the weather is getting super cold on the East Coast my skin specially on my hands an face get really dry an red. Do u have an suggestions of any products that could help?
Well my go to product is simple Vaseline sensitive skin lotion. Or Aquaphor (this is a bit greasy, I would suggest putting it on just at night). A weird trick I learned for your hands is to put lotion on them at night, and then put cotton gloves on. Wear them while you sleep. It works, I’ve tried it! For your face, if you’re looking for something a bit fancy, try Epicuren Aloe Vera Gel.
speaking of winter coats,
i've been looking for one.
just wondering how "fit" is yours. it seems like the ones i've tried on are pretty tight & restricting around the shoulders but getting a bigger size doesn't fit
any tips on choosing wool/winter coats?
Yeah it is a bit tricky. I opted for the snugged fit and just deal with it haha. But I feel ya!
I know it is not healthy to wash your hair everyday, but I have really oily hair so it looks gross and I want to wash it. Do you have any suggestions of what to use to make my hair not look so bad so I don't have to wash it everyday?
Kat! I absolutely love your blog and your tips are amazing(: thank you so much! It's giving me good ideas for Christmas gifts!
Now, I'm trying to find a really good eyeliner that doesn't smear or fade during the day, do you know of any? Thank you! And you're gorgeous<3
Check out my answer below… ps I like your shirt! jonasbrothersmerch.com added a few new shirts, so you can add those to your Christmas list :)
i try so hard to do the lauren conrad braid.. you know like the one that goes across the front of your hair..? ....how the heck do i do it???? haha
It’s tricky and after a lottt of practice I can’t even do it like she does it. There are a few tutorials online, but I haven’t found an awesome one. It’s easier to do when your hair is wet, so try that if you haven’t yet. And we can braid each other’s hair!
